Jase is the name strangely gifted to me by the cellular phone of the love of my life.
He told me that the caller id on his phone called me Jase instead of “Jaz” as he had likely written.
This was in 2015 during production for my very first music video shoot,
and I was feeling SO proud of the work that came out of that project.
So proud that I felt like I needed a new name,
a name to connect to the performance persona+energy
I discovered within myself during that creative process.
“How about Jase?”
he said as I was brainstorming.
Reflecting on the shoot, the energy, and the creative buzz radiating within me.
“Jase . . .” I repeated.
“Damn. I love that.”
And in came my first Instagram account ever, and my first username @jasecreations: kept from 2015 through 2019, and officially changing to jase.the.crone on 01.10.2020.
“The Crone” aspect of my story came to me in a lightning strike of truth,
a night of awakening in February of 2018,
a night I will never forget.
Now,
on
1 . 1 1 . 2 0 2 1
I am graduating to @jamunakaur
the name of my great grandmother,
an Ayurvedic practitioner and healer,
born and raised in India.
This name was given to me by my Nanima
(translation: mother’s mother in Punjabi)
Nanima has been calling me “Jamuna” and “Jamman” since I can remember.
She has never called me by the name on my birth certificate, and I like it best that way.
The way she calls me Jamman, and Jamuna, feels like home.
Feels like the warmth of her kitchen, and the spice in my mouth and in my blood.
Jamuna is here, with me and within me. Bringing her Crone energy, and her ancestral wisdom.
We are both here to tell the stories of Jase The Crone,
because the telling is also the healing.
These last few years contain wisdom for the many, not just for Jase alone.
In this new time, the time of healing and recovery,
the time of Jamuna Kaur.
Jamuna Kaur is the founder of Culture SHIFT. She is a media maker, facilitator, creative director and multi-disciplinary artist working to tell stories of change that inspire transformation. Revealing the interconnected relationships between earth, equity, and personal empowerment through movement.
Over the coming year,
I will be sharing the stories of Jase the Crone,
in writing,
in sound & song,
and in movement & e-motion.
The formats will change,
but the stories are all interrelated.
We will be posting as often as we can,
In one of the above mentioned formats.
Keep an eye out for the episodes here on cultureshift.me, but you can also find updates on the @cultureshift.me instagram page.
With gratitude and appreciation for you being here to witness my truth shared in vulnerability,
with love ~
